Default Where do you buy your knives?

    Hi Guys

Long time knife fanatic here. I just joined the forum today and am looking forward to going through some of the topics.

    But back to my question:

Where do you buy your knives? I buy my knives from a shop in Sandton City, the prices are pretty reasonable. But the range doesn't change that much, and there are some knives that I would love to check out that this shop does not stock.

So I'm just wondering where you guys buy from? Physical shop, online, local in SA or from overseas?

Thanks in advance for your replies.

Crispy please dont forget to post an intro thread in the correct forum.

Most of my blades come from Sharp Edge in Sandton. But I am seriously considering picking up a Pohl Force from Hailstorm (Khumba on the forum). He has the Mora utility knives as well which are excellent value.

Thanks BigT. I just posted my intro a minute ago.

I buy my knives from Sharp Edge too, but I was hoping there was some place else I could check out. Just for a bit of variety.

Thanks for the tip on Khumba, I'll check it out.

No not really. Stan Gordon the owner of Sharp Edge in Sandton city is also the owner of Blade Trader and Quality Cutlery importer in South Africa. He is also an honorary member of the Knife Makers Guild of South Africa.

Most of your stores, cape union, trappers, dads toys etc buys from him.

There is however another importer for strider knives (a member here on gunsite) and then awesome tools the importer of Leatherman. A smaller importer of quality tools (pruning sheres, axes and small folding saws are Cape Agriculture but that is a different story).

The other alternative is to join an international knife forum (jerzee devil, knifedogs, usual suspects network, bladeforums, benchmade, spyderco) and look into the members selling their knives in the for sale sections.

    Hi Marthinus

I am a member(lurker) at Bladeforums, not a day goes by without me checking in there. Have you guys ever bought online and had knives shipped to SA?

I had BuffaloHump (member here) help me with the import of a Chris Reeve Insingo since I did not have paypal or credit card. This was also just after my mugging and he was very kind. Send him a pm or email and he can give you a lot more info since he (and due to him I) feel that buying on the forums is the best option.

...and considering the prices of the Pohl Force knives on their website and the rand/euro exchange rate, I think Hailstorms (Khumba) prices are excellent for these knives.

i got to play with my friends Pohl Force. A BEAST of a knife! I forgot Hailstorm has them. I would recommend such a knife for anyone, a strong knife that sounds like a gun being cocked as it locks open!

Just wanted to ad the one I played with was the Bravo. The smaller more EDC friendly one.
