Knife passaround.

Cant it be organized with some knife suppliers to supply some different models for the purpose of passing it around and reviewing by members. That way they can market their product + we can test it as the man in the steet and not according to claims. Hunters can use it for skinning, housewifes for pruning, and campers for field living and then write a review, sharpen it up and send it to the next person on the list.
Rules can be something like you must be a member
you must notify when you recieved it
You must come and write a review and
you must post it to the next person on the list.

What do you blokes think, esp the suppliers?
Maybe we can start with a SOG?? he he!

How long does the person keep it and is it for viewing or using?

By agreeing to take part in any passaround posted on Bladeforums, I agree to the following conditions:

1. I release BladeForums.com, it's members, etc from any liability that results from my participating in this passaround. This includes any damages that may result from using, abusing, or testing the passaround knife.

2. I agree that I will have the passaround knife for a set period of days as specified in the passaround thread, then send it to the next person on the list, at my expense. I agree that postage and insurance are my responsibility and that should the knife fail to reach the next member of the list, it is my responsibility to replace it.

3. I agree that should I fail to live up to my obligations in this passaround, I will be banned and my personal information will be published so that others will have "fair warning". This will be left up to the discretion of the moderators. Remember that participation in the passarounds is a priveledge and can be revoked at any time.

4. I affirm that I am over 18 years of age, and that the knife involved in the passaround is legal to possess and carry in my jurisdiction. By choosing to participate in paid passarounds, I agree that the money being sent is not in exchange for any good or service and I agree to release BladeForums.com, it's members, etc from any liability for the loss of the funds invested in the passaround if the knife is lost or destroyed.

When sending the knife, I will send by a method that requires signature confirmation and insure the package for an amount equal to or greater than the replacement cost of the knife. I acknowledge that this will be more expensive and bear the sole responsibility for these costs. I will carefully package the knife / item with all seams taped and the item secured wrapped within the package.

(USPS is considered to be the cheapest and fastest service for mailing a passaround knife, however UPS is faster on claim service).

I will make the best effort to pass along the knife in as good of condition as possible, if not better. If the blade is dull and I feel confident in your sharpening skills, I will put a fresh edge on the knife before I send it along. I will clean any grime or residue off the blade before passing it along.

In the event the knife is broken, fails, or is otherwised destroyed, I will immediately contact whoever is in charge of the passaround.

If the knife has failed due to defect, I will arrange to have the knife returned for warranty service.

If the knife failed due to abuse that is not covered by the warranty, it is my responsibility to replace the knife.

It is *my* responsiblity for getting the knife to the next person on the list.

By participating in the passaround, I agree to adhere to the above posted rules, and any violation of the rules will cause my membership at Bladeforums.com to be revoked. I also understand that if I am a Gold, Premium, Knifemaker, or Dealer member, and my membership is revoked, I will not be entitled to any refunds of said membership fees.

WE are thinking about it but I have serious reservations.

The average knife user has no idea of how to sharpen a knife properly. So if a knife goes out on a pass around and users use it and it gets blunt who is going to resharpen it properly?

Someone might try and totally stuff up the edge and get it to the next user who uses it and gives it a bad review because it cannot cut. A knife that cannot cut is useless and the uselessness may be caused by a pass around user.

Unfortunately I do not have a lot of faith in the ability of the average knife user to properly maintain the knife and especially the edge.

The solution may be in arranging to have the knife returned to the supplier before each next pass around to enable the supplier to touch up the edge.

How will it be shipped hence and forth and who takes responsibility for a knife that gets lost or stolen either in possession of the pass around user or in the mail?

The bloke that last reviewed it is liable for postage as he had the pleasure of handling the knife. When shipping insurance must be taken out!

Get what you mean with the sharpening.

BTW. Just had a look at the Lionsteel SR-1 AL. a sweet blade too, but the Ti is just so pretty.
Im stoked that you'll be getting these blades man!!!

We were advised by Lionsteel that before the Shot Show, and the orders they expect to get there, they were at a schedule of delivery by end of Feb.

We submitted our first order yesterday so hopefully we will be in the delivery schedule before the USA orders.

We will keep you posted on progress and I have your name on a Ti model - you can confirm once they are here.

What is mquite amzing about the construction of this knife is that the handle body is made of one piece of Titanium - Ti is a very resilient and tough metal to machine and work.

Personally if I was a dealer I wouldn't do it. If you want something buy it. If I want a SOG I buy it from FrankH, if I want a Pohl Force then Khumba will be on my list. CRKT and other stuff Sharp Edge in Sandton. I don't want to send of a R1000 knife and then it gets lost in the post and I have to pay for it. No thanks, I rather buy.

If I was a dealer, I would lend a knife for a review only to those who are willing and able to post a decent YouTube review and post a link on this forum. Also, it would have to be a hand-to-hand exchange of merchandise to eye-ball the reviewer and the merchandise.
In my experience (in other industries) "journos" do not care about the goods, any damage is seen as part of the test. That is cool with multi-million multinational companies, not cool with SME companies that we should grow in our country.
