    Default Remington 887 vs. 870

I've been looking at the Remington website, specifically at their shotties, and I am strangely drawn to the Model 887 they have. What do you guys think of the 887 versus the 870?

I see they are pretty much on par with each other as far as price goes, and pretty hand-in-hand when it comes to specifications.

I'm looking specifically at these two:

    Remington 887 Nitro Mag Tactical
    Remington 870 Express Tactical

    Your thoughts?

Personally I learned long ago not to be a beta tester for new products...particularly when I planned to use said product for serious use like HD, etc. This is not just a stretched 870 but a whole new shotgun...even uses a different bolt design.

I won't say that the 887 might not eventually earn a place beside the 870 but they have not even worked out all the bugs yet. There have been reports (I cannot confirm them yet but 'smoke / fire' etc.) that some have rusted under that gee-whiz coating and of problems with bolt lockup. If true, Remingtom will eventually get it right, but for now, I will take the 870 thanks.

If it ain't broken, don't fix it. 870 has been tried and tested for many years. The sheer number of options available also goes some way. I'm also thinking of getting the Remington 870 Express Tactical. Only problem is: how where and when?

It would appear that the fore end on the one pictured is way to long. Sidesaddles would be out if anyone evenakes one to fit the 887.

Your gunshop will be able to have any Remington special ordered for you.

Important what Ikor said - also no go for IDPA as no comps are allowed on shotguns.

And if you should plan to remove the comp for IDPA use it will also not work because (as it seems to me from the pic) the magazine tube will extend beyond the muzzle = not allowed.

I would think the 11-87 is better proven and a better option than the 887. Plus its IDPA legal as well.

The 870 Express Tactical looks like it'll be a close shave?

Its also semi auto, so not in the same category.

A stock 870 is apparently going to run around R8k if imported new.

    Thats semi auto rifle money.
