Default Hunting prices excluding VAT - why?

Something that has been bothering me for the past few years is that when I receive the prices for animals and accomodation from hunting venues, more often than not it states in fine print:

    Prices does not include VAT.

WTF? Why is this done? Can someone please explain the reasoning behind this practice to me?

I also dont get it.... Most times I think they just stick the VAT money in their own pockets anyway....

May have something to do with foreign tourist - they get to claim the VAT back when they leave, so this is the net price they would pay. Also Like all farmer's I'm sure if you suggested you don't want an invoice you could get the net price then the cash stays "off books"!

I've never got an invoice for hunting.
That money is pure profit for the farmer.
However, it does cost money to stock a farm.....

Foreign tourist claim VAT yes but foreign Hunters no not on the hunt anyway they dont pay VAT on trophies as its is getting exported. But yes its anoying when seeing VAT not included VAT is suppose to be included in a price you see its not like tghe old days with GST.

I have also always wondered why this is. Tha norm in any other price is that if you charge VAT, it is included in the price.

I have noticed tha tsertain wholesalers also quote prices ex VAT. Not sure if this is the norm in the wholesale business.

My company is VAT registered and I also qoute everything excl VAT.Its just easier to do quotes and invoices.I think farmers excl VAt because if you pay cash its not going anywhere near a bank account. But I ask for a VAT invoice so that I can claim it back as "spanbou"...

Presumably most (if not all) of your customers are business which are VAT registered, hence claim the VAT back.

This is not necessarily the case with a game farmer's customers.

It is more of an annoyance than anything, but perhaps they have a good reason for doing it.
