.243 HELP PLEASE...!!
Hi all,
I'm looking for a new .243. I have narrowed it down to these 4 rifles. Please help me decide with pro's and cons or what you have heard/seen about these rifles. Any input about these rifles would be greatly appreciated as I am undecided on which to choose. I will be using this rifle for shooting springbuck in open terrain, the odd varmint on the farm and target shooting. I won't really use this rifle for walking hunts. Price is not an issue so it can be assumed that these rifles cost the same...! Any input would be appreciated... Thanx...
Remington 700 CDL
Remington 700 SPS Varmint
Ruger M77 All Weather
Howa Varminter (Normal one, not the thumbhole stock).

Re: .243 HELP PLEASE...!!
I'd go for the Remington SPS. Nice looks and good out-the-box accuracy.

Even though you say that price is secondary, I think that you get excellent value with the Howa.

Re: .243 HELP PLEASE...!!
Michael - why a new one? There are good second hand rifles around that will outlive you and I for a fraction of the price. I just sold a friends Musgrave 243 for R4000 with a box of ammo and a 3-9x40 scope. This rifle shoots as accurately as the best and is as tough as can be. I have a 243 on a RSA action - a Musgrave vrystaat and I will not part with it because it shoots so well.
I hear the Howas are good value if you want to buy a new rifle.

while you are looking for a 243(6mm) why not go for the best and buy a 6mm Rem? 24dougnut
