Tactical rifle . . . . on a budget
Hi guys,
Just wanted to show off my new tactical toy. Wanted a tactical rifle, within a R15 000 budget, that I could enjoy on the range once or twice a month and have the confidence to tackle a few springbuck, out to 200m or so once a year.
The result:
Howa M1500 Tactical
Hawke 30 Tactical 6.5-20x scope (Imported for R3780.00 from the UK)
Harris Bi-pod
Going to set the scope in on Saturday at Durban Deep. Will let you know what my thoughts are.
Attached a few pics.

How easy was it to import the scope from the UK? Which vendor did you use? I know it is very tricky to import scopes from the US, so maybe the UK is a better bet.

Re: Tactical rifle . . . . on a budget
Hi All,
To answer all your questions let me start with the caliber. The Howa is in .308. Love the caliber as it's cheaper than most to reload and wanted to keep to the "standard" tactical bolt rifle caliber in the sniping community, which in most cases
is the .308 Win.
Bought the rifle from Camdix in Krugersdorp. Johan is always available and helpful. Got a good deal.
The Hawke scope was not a easy choice as I had to chose between the Hawke and a Millet. Both scopes in the lower price range were better than usual quality. The LRS Millet's here in SA is around R11000. That's more than the cost of the Howa and a Harris bi-pod. The tactical Leupold . . . . . well let's not go there cause that thing costs as much as a small countries yearly GDP. I settled on the Hawke as many of the American forums rated the Hawke better than the Millet.
I bought the Hawke 30 Tactical on the UK EBay site. My brother lives there which makes it very easy as I used PayPal to put money into his account, the supplier in the UK sent it on to my brother and he used DHL Express to get it to the DHL hub in Bryanston within four days. It took a week to collect the scope from the time I ordered it online. Postage and clearance fees were R520 at DHL on collection and had to pay 56Pounds in the UK for postage and handling fees.
All in all I paid half the price for the thing. Great deal I think.
I'll post the grouping later today. Let's hold thumbs that I don't cock things up at the range.
Chat soon all.
Law.
