    Default 6,5mm Portuguese Mauser

Strange things fall out when the tree is shook. I caught a well looked after rifle in 6,5x58 Portuguese. 29 inch barrel 12 inch length of pull and has UDF markings on .
    Anyone hazard a valuation.

    Thanks

Would also like to know? Got one handed down from grandfather to father to me. Barrel is somewhat shot out/ corroded but the rest is in good cond. Fired 20 rounds the other day just to see. Bullet speed was spot on but the shots were spread out wide.

Sharpshooter, is the rear bridge of the Portuguese Mauser split to allow the bolt to lock down in front of it?
Would be nice if you could post some piccies.

    Contact SAAACA with your enquiries.

IIRC a couple of years ago they were compiling a data base of the Portuguese Mauser.
Recent studies show that 1 out of every 3 liberals are just as dumb as the other 2

    Beautiful!
I have a soft spot for these rifles. My grandfather had one and his eldest son would go out hunting with it, one cartridge one springbok, because ammo was expensive and I suppose not so easy to obtain for farmers in the Pofadder area. Sadly it was confiscated before the outbreak of the 2nd world war.
Can you see if it worked with stripper clips? I might have one..

    About ammo

    I have one original round left. Won't shoot it.orig and 6.5 X 57 M.JPG6.5 X 58 ammo.JPG

The 6.5 X 57 Mauser shell is still a wee bit short (duh! 1mm) but it works fine.

    I fire formed 6.5 X 57 Mauser brass:
    Powder: 41.5 gr Somchem s365
Bullet: 6.5mm 140 gr Sierra Game King
    COL: 80.9mm
    Primer: Standard non corrosive
Quickload predicts 41617 psi and 2585 fps
Chrony measured min 2650 and max 2720 fps over 20 shots.

Coincidence? My grandfather's (now mine) was also nearly confiscated, don't know the whole story but he wrapped the rifle in mielie bags soaked with tar/ oil or something and burried it. Basterds (who ever 'they' are) you don't take a mans rifle!

No never had stripper clips and can't tell weather any were used with the rifle. Will try and fish out the whole sory re confiscation from my father when I see him again.

    Oh,
Can you post a pic of the clip in question?
