    Post Scope for .308

    Hey guys

I'm considering to buy a new scope for my rifle, it's a .308 which scope would you recommend after considering the caliber?

What are you going to do with it? At what distance?

Lynx 3-9x40 has served me very well on my .308
You will get the guys insisting on a Leupold or nothing.
There is nothing wrong with a lynx. Good, clear optics. Reasonable price and good backup service

I would definitely recommend a Nightforce NXS 5.5-22X50

Well actually all purpose, hunting in the bushveld and kalahari and probably also going to the shooting range on weekends.. But I prefer not to take a shot over 250m - 300m.

Haha I've already got a few guys who insisted on Leupold.. But I just need a decent scope.

Leupold VX II 3-9 X 40. If you want to spend a bit more, get the VXIII 4.5-14 X 50

Your rifle might be super accurate and your ammo top notch, but alas, it will be all in vain if your scope is not reliable.

Leupold might be slightly more expensive, but you only need to loose one Kudu or Eland, to make up for the difference in price. So not worth it to save a couple of bucks. Think long term.

For value for money, 3x9-40mm is the way to go.

A little bit of extra low-light performance costs a lot more, so if you decide you can do without it, don't bother spending a fortune. 9x magnification is plenty for anything up to 300m. I can see bulletholes in white paper at 300m with mine. 50mm objective costs a bit more for more light transmission.

Burris is a good value for money scope thats become popular in SA. Leupold is probably the most popular, and they offer a pricerange for everyone's pocket.

First scope on my sons' 308 rifle was a leupold 4-12x42 Vari x 1 with LR reticle. He wanted a Hubble scope, so now the Leupold is going on my 8mm. Nice scope. Didn't cost an arm & a leg either.
For longer ranges the bigger magnification scopes are nice, but if there's mirage out there, the scope magnifies that too. On a hot day (mirage) I turn my scope down to 14x, otherwise it seems like you're looking at dancing puppets.
