jeez... thanks guys. i've really learnt alot from this thread. thanks for the input. gonna have to start hunting for a good shotty again.

guess i'll keep the mossberg on the back-burner for a little. it'll still take time till competency comes.

The truth if I've ever heard it, I have one (modded) and I love it so bits!! Reliable to the extreme, the Glock of shotguns.
Otherwise a Remington 870 is also a great shotty, Winchester 1300's are pretty scarce, but if you can find one at a decent price, buy it!

    R1000 or less.

thanks for that. will keep that in mind.

so what would you think about a Mossberg 500 for R1400. the firearm belongs to an elderly gentleman. 10 rounds been fired thru it since buying it in 1985. small spots of surface rust which have been touched up with Blu

i like the FRANCHI and the REMMINGTON because of the lock up mechanism of the bolt and extraction of the cartridge.
the winchester uses a rotating lock mechanism that makes it prone to jams while locking and extractor can jump the case rim.
on paper cartridges one gets some swelling at times and the winchester doesnt handle that well.
on plastic hulls one gets strips of plastic "threads" and after a while those jam the winchester.

the type of lock up of the 870 and my FRANCHI makes it more robust and forgiving to these factors.

for a SHTF shotgun , i want it rack and shoot with no glitch.

    the winchester is also heavier.

I don't see how with it having a alloy reciever as opposed to the other's steel.

Just checked out the Atis shotgun at Dave Sheer for R2500-00. Any idea on these guns, good or bad.
