BSA .303 British Rifle
Was wondering what the value of this rifle might be.
It belonged to my grandfather and was apparently given to him whilst serving in the commando. It has also according to my father seen some action in the war...
How true this is I dont know.
Im just trying to establish the worth of the rifle.
Its got a few nicks and scratces of hard work but is in perfect working condition!~!!!MOLON LABE

Re: BSA .303 British Rifle
They are ufortunately not worth too much - my grandfather also left us one. They can be had for around R800 or so IIRC, so unless it has a real documented history which may appeal to a collector that's about it I think.

Re: BSA .303 British Rifle
If it is in Good working condition it is still worth much more than anyone will be willing to pay for it. There is no reason budding young hunter could not use it as his first hunting rifle.

Re: BSA .303 British Rifle
Just please dont have it deactivated, if these old war horses could talk i could only imagine the stories. Wish i could have taken all the old 303's i have seen deactivated before it was done. Its an awesome piece, save it for your son or grandson one day. In anycase, you never know when it may need to be called into service again.

Re: BSA .303 British Rifle
To the OP, do you perhaps know the model? A good condition Lee Enfield can fetch around to R1500 retail. But that is at a gun shop. You will probably be able to get just under R1000 for it. I have a Lee Enfield No4 Mk2 with all the serial numbers still coinciding, which is rare. If all your serial numbers coincide then the gun is of much more value to collectors.
Fact is so many are deactivated and also sported/converted to hunting rifles. That is why clubs like the Lee Enfield Rifle Association exist, to encourage people to preserve these beautiful rifles.
The great thing with old guns is that there are always other goodies to collect that goes along with them. This is what I have put together sofar:
