Victoriknox knives
Admittedly I haven;t searched the forum, but what is the general feeling around VK knives? I mean, they have been around since I can remember, and they still look pretty much the same as the first one I got from my dad when I was still young and innocent.
Being around that long, and seemingly unchanged, is this a good or bad thing? Does it mean they have a winning design/product, or is it simply a matter of being stagnant?
They do look elegant though...

Re: Victoriknox knives
I own 3 different models.
I use them for general stuff around the house, use the tweezers a lot, those annoying little scissors are used often as well. But I never take it out with me. The main blade is useless as it doesn't lock into place. The rest of the tools are handy though.
If you look at newer models, you will see that they have everything from LED flash lights to USB flash storage. So wouldn't say stagnant, but not really a leatherman in useful multipurposeness (new word).
They also make kitchen utensils, forks, spoons, etc. My mom owns 24 of each, it cost a fortune, to the tune of about R25-45 each, about 10 years ago. They are still sharp and still looks good.
Also, watch the episode of how it's made about swiss army knives. They have "patented" technology for sharpening the blades, which I think makes them "unique" as well. In my opinion, a sharp knife is a sharp knife, don't need patented technology for that.

Re: Victoriknox knives
I still love my Victorinox pocket knives. Carry one al the time and use it for nearly everything.
If Chuck Norris had a Victorinox we'd call him McGuyver!

Re: Victoriknox knives
I had a "Hunter" which had a blade that would lock in place, a gut hook (very effective), a bone saw, toothpick and small tweezers. Very nice knife, indeed!

Excellent back up and hard use knives. The rather thin blades and flat grind profiles are excellent for cutting biltong and slicing.
Keeps a good edge and very easy to keep the edge extremely sharp on a Spyderco Sharpmaker.
I have quite a few that I use regularly.
My faves are these models

especially Soldier, Nomad and Forester.

Re: Victoriknox knives
I have owned a few Victorinox knives and I think they're excellent. I currently own a Leatherman Charge XTi with Titanium handles and I think the Victorinox Swisstool is far superior. You can check it out here http://www.victorinox.com/category/1/100/1008
Goto youtube and search for victorinox rescue tool. There's an excellent video/advertisment about this knife. It is the one with the green handle. It's amazing how the fireman cuts out a cars windscreen with this tool.
