The only reason is that I'm not sure I'll be able to get what I really want in wood. But then again, I'm only going to see a gunsmith tomorrow to chat about possibilities.

I take it your rifle has a wood stock?

JJ Wapens in Ermelo had at one point advertised sporterised conversions for .303 militaty actions and I think it was with some sort of undertaking to it's accuracy. Maybe you should contact them. Unfortunately, I don't have their contact details, but you should be able to get them via Telkom and they advertise in a number of the local hunting magazines.

    Regards,
    JHN

I was lucky enough to find a guy here in Rustenburg that does stocks for 303's. Went to see him on Friday and he had some examples of modified 303's One in particular stood out. To make a long story short, my 303 is going to him either tomorrow or Wednesday.

    Force9,
Is this guy a registered gunsmith/stockmaker?
If you leave your rifle with him and he is not registered, you could end up with a heap of unwanted trouble from the law, if they happen to inspect his premises on a tip off.
    I've seen it happen.
You need to be in control of your rifle at all times, unless this person is a registered gunsmith, in which case you are good to go.Book it in and let him do the work.
    Rather safe than sorry..

Yes he is. I can confirm that because as I was having a chat with him a guy came in to tell him that their license renewal was being processed as they speak and they still have time on their current one.

I went into his workshop and there are tens or even hundreds of weapons being worked on or waiting to be collected. Were we spoke there was 5 303's in final assembly.

    Gents,

So nice to see people with a love for the Enfields. I love these rifles sporterized or in original form-

    Question- I have a 1910 Lee Enfield BSA Mk1* (pre-SMLE)

Would it be possible to make a SMLE No1 synthetic stock fit? The Rifle i have has been sporterized sporting open sights. I obtained a No1 side mount from THOR that fits, and planning to mount a scope to see what i can get out of the old war horse before spending more $$

    What do you think?

Sean , yours is a No4? really like the look of the stock.

So the 303 is at the gunsmith. Now I need to find a scope.....

I'm currently looking at the Leupold VX-1 4-12x40 Wide Duplex...

    Any other suggestions maybe?

    Hi Force,

Any spesific reason you want to go with such a high magnifiaction? ive had a 4x32 Bushnell on a No4Mk1 and always felt comfortable with this.

Reason im asking is that depending on what base you use, eye relief might be a problem?

Yes, mine is a No.4 Mk1* made by Long Branch in Canada, 1942. It has a two groove barrel.
