    Default Competency certificates: Waiting time

As a result of a lot of "hearsay" the last couple of months, why don't we post our personal experiences here, to give an indication if the new firearm system is working or not.

If you applied for your competency and also handed in an application for a firearm lisence, also post it here.

I think this could get interesting.

    Regards

Haha! This is gonna be another sad thread...

Handgun and rifle competency - 3 years, 11 months and two weeks.

Shotgun further competency - 3 days short of seven months (still waiting for the card since approval in March).

Handgun Competency took 15 months. Apllied on the 16th of Febuary 2010 and was approved 16th may 2011.
Applied for further competency on the 20th of May 2011 so should have it in 4 months, we can only dream.

Submitted my applications yesterday. My DFO told me they received a memo that the police station may hold on to your app for a maximum of 20 days, for interviews and capturing, where after it must go to Provincial. Provincial then has a maximum of 14 days to do quality control and whatever else it is they do, after which it must go to CFR. CFR then has a maximum of three months to make a decision. I'm not placing any faith in this, as CFR cannot even keep to statutory time limits, never mind an internal policy.

Interesting, though, was that she also told us DFOs were recently exempted from doing safe inspections, they just need to do an interview with the applicant regarding his safe. All this in order to comply with the 4 month period...

    So here's holding thumbs...

Submitted my Apps (both comp and license) on 26 april 2011. My DFO said he had two weeks to finish his part, even phoned me to speed up the interviews coz he couldnt get hold of my referees. he also said provincial has only got two months max to sort out apps. got a SAPS message on 31 May 2011 saying my apps is now receiving attention at provincial DFO.

My thumbs are getting numb, but for the sake of the most prized piece of paper in the south african constitution, im holding ooooooooooooooonnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn.
