Re: Competency certificates: Waiting time
I didn't want to open a new thread when a similar one existed, and there's so many threads with more or less the same title so I wasn't sure which to post to.
I handed in my application for competency a few weeks ago and was told it would take anywhere from 3-6 months! 3 months I get, as I was under the impression that's about the standard time... But 6??? Ridiculous! And then I must still apply for a firearm license after that (who knows how long THAT will take) before I can get a gun. The break in's in my area are getting worse. Every week there are at least 1 or 2 new reports. So because of the DFO's inadequacies, I need to wait before I'll have the PROPER means to defend myself. Do they think criminals wait before they attack you? Not cool.

I corrected that for you; some of the CFR personnel might be causing hickups but our DFO team in Potch is very active and quite honest to say the least. They often give you the full spectrum of possibilities but are working very hard in general. They are on a slight backlog because of the first session of reregistering SD licenses. Otherwise top noth service from our DFO team. (At least in our experience.)

Re: Competency certificates: Waiting time
I gave in my competency application on the 13th of March 2015(after the first one got lost), and phoned weekly and then 2 weekly. It was approved on the 8th of December. Gave in my license application early Jan 2016 and received 2 sms's up to date stating that my licence app is receiving attention at CFR. 1st on the 15 Feb and 2nd on the 24 Feb. Hope this will be quicker as I bought the rifle December 2014, and really want it for hunting season.
