Be warned !!
I received this email and thought I would spread the warning.
Warnings-SAPS andAmmunition and Components
The regs havechanged. Looks like it is not just ammunition that needs to be stored away, butcomponents to make ammo too. Just received this from False Bay Gun Club:
WARNINGS - SAPS firearm division andAmmunition, primers, powder, "surplus Military ammo"
A word or warning -- I am sure most of you have come to know that justabout every Gun shop and Gunsmith in the Cape area has been "Raided"over the past few months by the SAPS Firearms control section.
Almost every one of the raids resulted in charges being brought againstthe owner / operator due to "Non Compliance"
These charges range from ammunition not stored correctly, (1 or 2 roundsfound in a desk draw) to "unnumbered gun parts", and so on.
Now this has been happening at gun shops and will almost certainly moveto "private individuals' being "raided" over the coming months-- the word is COMPLIANCE -- so you need to comply with the law and the type ofissues are:
1. Correct storage of firearms SABS safe bolted to wall etc.
;2. Correct storage of ammunition, primers and powder.
a - Needs to all be stored in a safe
b - That round of ammunition in the laundry that fell outyour pocket while doing the washing after being at the range -- YUP that willalmost certainly land you in trouble as it is not stored correctly in terms ofthe firearms control act.
SO -- Ammo, Primers and Powder ALL need to be stored in a safe.
3. Military "surplus ammo" if anyone has any of this type ofammo please be CAREFUL -- ensure it is NOT in the original "brownboxes" and especially the nice "sealed brown bags" -- Take itout the bags / boxes if yo u have any of these. Yes, we know that at one stageyou could buy these boxes from the gun shops (80's and 90's) -- but seriously --get rid of the boxes and keep (in a safe) the loose ammo. This way there willbe no "please explain" as to why you have the ammo unless you havethe original invoice!!
Then a final note --
It seems as though there are "informants and Cop wanna-be's"out there at various clubs potentially posing a visitors --
Please just be careful what you say and what you do. Most of the raidsto date on private individuals and companies has been due to "informantsand disgruntled staff" -- this could even be your Secretary, Cleaning ladyor garden guy -- so "Mum's the word". It is getting "hot outthere with the Cops" and again -- who are being targeted??? -- Those theyknow are "soft targets", but the Cops keep referring to"Compliance" as the reason for these actions -- well the "Noncompliance".Last edited by camouflage762; 21-06-2011 at 14:20. Recent studies show that 1 out of every 3 liberals are just as dumb as the other 2

Re: Be warned !!
also got that, but wasnt proper and secure storage of powder/primers and bullets supposed to be in a safe anyways? i was under the impression that people just got a bit lax lately.
i'm just wondering... must the components/bullets be stored in your official firearm safe, or can you have another "temporary" safe in the garage for reloading purpouses?

hehe ;)
but still, where should you store it then?
powder one safe, primers another?
or can primers be stored in a non-secure enclosure?

Re: Be warned !!
Bullets and unprimed cases can be stored anywhere you like. Powder is the concern of the Explosives guys, not the people enforcing the FCA. The FCA is only concerned with firearms and ammunition.

Re: Be warned !!
Components were supposed to be under lock and key????
I have always stored primers and powder separately
I was told that my habit of leaving primed cases (not filled with powder)
was NON COMpliant.
Can anyone guess?advise whether this would aply to bullet heads
