Illegal to have more than one loaded gun in the safe?
There is an article in the latest SA hunter entitled "The go to back-up gun". The author states "Our quirky law allows only one firearm loaded in the safe...." Never read or seen anything about this. More misunderstanding. I was told by a club member once it was illegal to arrive at the range with my sport gun's mag's loaded!

Re: Illegal to have more than one loaded gun in the safe?
Heard the same story re unloaded in the safe. If accurate, I wonder if that affects all lisenced FA's or only those issues under the FCA. I still keep the little Norinco locked and loaded in the safe along with my SD revolver.

i haven't seen that at all, but I have noticed that the act says that all firearms (except those licenced for SD) must be stored unloaded.

Re: Illegal to have more than one loaded gun in the safe?
Well, that's the beauty of a pistol over a revolver. Let's say you have a Glock for SD and one for sportshooting. To comply with the law you simply keep the SD gun loaded, and have a fully loaded magazine next to but not inserted into the backup gun. The backup gun is then completely unloaded, as required by law, but popping a mag in an racking the slide will take you about 1 second. If you have time to run to your safe and look for your backup, then you will probably have the time to pop a mag into it as well. What I'm saying is a pistol can go from unloaded to 17 or even 33 rounds ready for use very quickly. Just have loaded mags ready, which is perfectly legal.

Re: Illegal to have more than one loaded gun in the safe?
I have a Rossi LA .357 Mag which is licensed for hunting purposes.
Part of my motivation was that I keep sheep and from time to time predators attack my sheep, thus if I have this rifle ready & available I would be able to 'defend' my sheep.
I made it quite clear that I intend to keep this rifle in a loaded condition. I also stated that sometimes it may be BG's that are the predators and that I have no way of telling which type of predators are attacking my sheep before I reach them.
Personally I think they never read my motivation and presumed with about 30 pages I have got enough reason to approve the license.

Telling someone that I believe I have good reason to be exempt from a law and them not disagreeing with me doesn't make me exempt from that law.

Re: Illegal to have more than one loaded gun in the safe?
True, but what do you do if you hear something that goes bump in the night and you go to shoot a jackal or something and are met by 3 BG's which are armed? I now the law states you can use any firearm at your disposal at this time to defend yourself.
As for the loaded storage I'm not so sure of,actually I never really thought a bout that one. But yes the fact that they did not disagree with me does not make it legal to keep a firearm which is intended for hunting purposes in a loaded condition.

Well... store your rifle outside the safe at night, round chambered and ready to use...
