Red face Shooting, in the brass.

One of the traditions we have when hunting in Namibia, is the following:
Each hunter has a chance to try and shoot a brass case at +- 20 paces, with his own gun. In my hunting group of +- 10 guys, only 3 have ever done it. My dad, with his .303 many years ago and later with his .300 Win Mag. My cousin also shot brass, with his 30-06, and I shot with my 30-06.
Not as easy as you might think.

Last year was the first time I ever succeeded at 20 paces, but not only that, I shot one at 100 paces too. The farmer’s son, took a bet that I couldn’t repeat my “luck-shot” at 100 paces, he bet me a bottle of Johnny Walker Blue, and insisted that I use his .270
After the brass fell, he refused to pay up, he said; “No, we never shook hands, before the bet, so the bet was not sealed” Ha-Ha…
On the left, the 270 at 100 paces and the right the 30-06 at 20 paces.

Well done. We used to shoot .22 brass with the Musgrave .22, but never at 100 paces, and never with a lot of success. I'd love to try this with my .30-06 when the licence comes...

Will give this a bash with my 30-06, sounds like something fun to try.

Do you take a dead rest, or out the shoulder?

So it's not only my mad bunch of hunting buddies that shoot at other targets. (paper)

Does the .22 also penetrate the brass?

You'll love your 30-06, it's a great all rounder, IMHO.

Very lame to pull a "no handshake" defense... Nice shooting!

No ONLY dead rest. I think the farmer likes to use this "game" to see who he can trust to shoot at his Springbuck. 300m plus.

Dirk, no it only flattens them. Also did it with the .22 revolver at 7 paces. Great fun!

Come to think of it, I have seen quite a few cases with these types of holes in them at the shooting range. It think after fine tuning a load, it is the perfect way to end off a day's shooting!

Some nice shooting! I've seen something similar done with a .22 once, not at 20 paces though, still something I want to try.
