Re: My first Eland
Hi
I used my .30-06 loaded with Sako SHH 180 gr. The distance was 210m, but I made the mistake of using my friend's rangefinder reading, which was incorrectly given as 175 m. This caused my first shot to be about three inches low and it went through the brisket. Luckily it only moved a bit and I put one through the lungs, which exited trough the opposing front leg.
For this hunt I tried to develop a load for a 220 gr Rhino, but could not get the bullet to group. I suspect stabilisation problems due to the length of this bullet and my Tikka's twist of 1 in 11. At short notice I went back to the Sako's, which has accounted for numerous kudu in the Eastern Cape.

HANNESB,
As a matter of interest, what rangefinder does your friend have?
Oh, and congratulations! You will be eating in style for a while!
(Wow! I'm a poet and I don't even know it!)

Re: My first Eland
Well done.
The Rhino .308" 220 grain bullets are very long. I could not get them to work in my .30-06 either.
