So since we started the Combative classes with SWATG the wife has really seen that she needs a 2nd step on the SD ladder over using only hands & feet and she decided that a knife will for now be a better choice since she hasn't had to much exposure with firearms.

anybody have any experience with any of these, advantages / disadvantages or have any other recommendations.

She is slightly limited in that she can't really carry blades that you hold in your pocket since her work doesn't really ban knives / weapons but really frown upon it if they are visible...

Cant go wrong with the TDI, especially considering how the design favours retention.

Out of those I would go for the Tdi.

My wife carries a Spydie Matriarch or byrd hawkbill.

HoggerNaut thanx for the suggestions on the blades the wife carries but those are mostly in pocket carry & as such not really ideal for her work enviroment.

She will mostly be carrying on her waistband, most likely inside waistband, so that her top van cover the knive from prying eyes. Also the reason we are thinking fixed blade rather than folder is it can normally be easier deployed with both strong & reaction hand than a folder that is in a pocket.

So if you had a wider choice than those 3 (we are not limited to them they are just the most recommended from the recearch i've done) anything else you would recommend or is the TDI the keeper?

The Tdi is an awesome blade if used correctly. I seriously dont think you'll regret getting it!
My wife does carry IWB in the appendix position BTW!

Regarding other blades.... its such a personal thing and applying it is another factor.

I personally mix between a spydie street beat, civilian and sometimes I just carry a nice EDC folder like the millie or strider!

Interisting i never thought about carrying a folder IWB, always 'cautious' that it might open in a sensitive area.

I've had very few folders stay closed 100% of the time. Everything from my swiss army to my crkt have at some point opened in my pocket.

IMHO definately go fixed blade for SD. adrenal stress causes loss of fine and complex motor skills. a fixed blade is easier to grab and stab with. I EDC'd the bearclaw for a long time. great ergonomics, but I feel it could do with more blade for the overall weight and amount of handle (there is a bit of a visual illusion with the design that makes the blade look longer than it really is)

I've never owned a TDI but its on my shopping list as I have only heard good things about it.

I carry a cold steel kobun (tanto) with a sheath I modified for handle down carry on my strong side waist band. easily concealed by a t-shirt (overall length of 25cm!) and super fast to deploy since you pull it down and out without needing to lift the shirt up over the whole thing.
