Re: Predictions on firearm ownership in this country.
When the sun rose over the New South Africa, the country moved back closer to the 'Common Wealth' countries and took a more 'respectable' place in the pecking order of the UN. I believe that these two factors contributed to the current new Firearm Regulations. I do not think in any way that things would get any easier and we could expext continued pressure, bad service and being 'steam rolled'. As the UN is not to much in favour of private firearm ownership and the continued pressure of Africa to be more prominent in the UN, the pressure from the UN will be back at Africa for a reduction of private firearm ownership as part of their ill advised plan to reduce violence. This would include South Africa.
Further to this there is a economic crises in the way off rocketing fuel prices and food shortages that could escalate violence where illegal firarms will be part and the legal firearms will be blamed once more. There will be further attempts to address this problem by placing pressure on legal firearms.
Just my view....

Heard this before, somewhere:
"A disarmed society is a passive society."

and expect to see more "no guns" signs around 2010 with the soccer. These will be a 'preventative' measure to reduce crime (once more a ill adviced tactic)

I liked the sticker I saw before that is meant to stick near gunfree areas:
NO GUNS, NO MONEY
Meaning that if I cant take my gun into your shop, I will not spend my money there

DFO's are also kept in the dark.
Theyre expected to do as they are told.
