One is None and Two is One.
Just some more random thoughts.
I have seen a couple of people on the forum who have expressed the opinion that they don't need more than one handgun. I respectfully disagree.
IMHO you need at least two preferably identical if not then as near as dammit to one another eg if you don't want two M&P 45s what about one in 9x19 and the other in 45. My reasoning follows.
Hopefully if you are carrying a gun for SD then you are training as much as possible and/or competing in one of the shooting sports. This can put a lot of wear and tear on your firearm and if it is your carry gun the possibility exists of a failure at the worst possible time. Having an identical or near identical gun means that you can avoid unnecessary abuse to your SD gun but can allow the transfer of skills from your sport gun. This is why I say as close to one another as possible as there are operational difference between that trick 1911 you run on the range and the snub you slip in your pocket.
This could place you at a slight equipment disadvantage in your sport of choice as your carry gun may not be the gun for the game but only you can decide which of these priorities are greater to you.
Something else we don't consider is that your gun could be taken for ballistics after a shooting and if the police haven't taken your other guns it would be nice to be armed again ASAP. If they are identical you now have the luxury of using all your normal carry gear as well.
Remember guns break doesn't matter what make or what super duper endurance test you saw on the errornet all brands will fail periodically.
AFAIK some specialised units in the US issue two pistols to there officers one for high volume practise and one for duty use. I am not saying to never shoot your actual carry gun as you obviously;y need to function test it and periodically familiarise yourself with it as well as confirm that it still functions. But have something else to abuse not the tool you just may need to save your life.

+1000! Excellent advice, sometimes not followed, I fear, in SA where just getting another handgun is a PITA and since we all like more than a single make / model it IS nice to have some variation, etc. OR in the states, even in places such as where I live with no license requirements, no waiting periods, no limits on numbers of guns (well, except for your pocketbook) etc. I have two G19s, a G26 and a G17, but I am seriously thinking about selling the G26 and picking up a G34...I really like the 34's, and the 19s will mostly do what the G26 will...for me at least.

Re: One is None and Two is One.
I would love to get another Glock, but the prices are a bit rough for me at the moment. So, its either find really good deal on a second hand one, get one on credit, or get a free snubby from my dad - but then I will have to be on two different systems. The price of a new Glock nowadays is almost as much as my salary. I would probably for a G17, or another G19. The G26 is great no doubt, but I also think the G19 conceals well enough.
For my mind, I'd rather wait till I get a good deal on a Glock, or possibly get it on credit, but not always my favorite option. Oh the humanity!

Absolutely +1000000, but if things are going the way they are going I might be reduced to a water pistol with some chemicals and a steak knife from the kitchen happy0065 But on a more serious note, many of us made the mistake, including me for not purchasing the same system, IMO licensing is not really a big problem even if you for instance purchase a G19 and G17, true words!

Yip I agree - thanks for putting it out there BigT.
It should not be a wish list thing - if you are serious it should be a need and one should pursue it relentlessly.

Good advice T, you can never have enough, and having a system is a good idea and this is where I like the Glock's compatability, and 19 & 17 would do me just fine.
Bla, the USP's are nice, I still kicking myself that I never bought the USPc. :-\"You have enemies? Good. That means you've stood up for something, sometime in your life."
