That was fascinating Camo, thank you :ch

The 1812 is an awesome piece of music and hearing it performed by a full symphony orchestra using real cannons is something not to be missed! PACT did one such performance many years ago and it was amazing to experience. Wonder what the chances are of it being done again anytime soon?

Going off on a tangent, it is anecdotally reported that Napoleon was treated in for cholera by Samuel Hahnemann (the developer of homoeopathy) whilst passing through Germany on his way back to Paris, in accordance with homoeopathic principles that Hahnemann had only just started to formulate. Napoleon was apparently so impressed by the efficacy of the treatment that he had Hahnemann treat a large part of his army for cholera & typhoid on their way back from Moscow, once again with remarkable results for the time - which once again apparently impressed Napoleon greatly.

This came in useful later as Hahnemann was not known for his diplomacy, especially when it came to what he thought of his colleagues treatment methods. After pi@#$ng off many of the doctors in Germany, he was eventually kicked out and fled to Paris, where he did the greatest part of his work under the patronage of Napoleon.

Which just goes to show, it really does help to have friends in high places, even if they have just had their asses kicked by the Russians!

Thank you everyone for the feedback!
    It is much appreciated.

KevinF, when I attended the "Last night at the Prom" in 2009, each audience member was given a paper bag. When the 1812 was played we had to inflate the paper bag and then "POP" it when it was time
    for the cannons.
    Was loads of fun.
If I/we can ever organise a "GUNRUN" then I want to organise the 1812 with massed pistols & rifles.
    Should be a hoot.

Finally listened through all the podcasts - quite a wealth of info. This post might blow some dust off this thread, but if still interested in doing the 1812 with some "real" gunfire, leme know, I might be able to organise an orchestra
