Feeding bush pig
I need some help. What do you use to feed bush pig?
I have set up a feeding spot for bush pig. I use a mixture of crushed mealies and chopped Lucerne. It also has molasses mixed in together with sunflower seeds.
i put this in a container with water and let it ferment before I put it out. To date no luck. although there is evidence of bush pig activity in the area they are not feeding.
I have also used a horse carcass but only find jackal coming in to feed.
What am I doing wrong?

Re: Feeding bush pig
Make sure the bait is on the edge of thick bush or in a clearing by the thick bush.
Bushpig stick to thick cover.
The should come in to the horse carcass, but only when it's really stinking and is covered in maggottsA roaring Lion kills no game

Re: Feeding bush pig
Which raises a question.
DO you really want to eat an animal that feeds on rotting meat?
what are the health consequences?

Re: Feeding bush pig
Nah... I've eaten my fair share of pig, bushpig and warthog and I'm still allright...
More interesting for me is this: We do not eat carnivores. We only eat herbivores and the occasional omnivore (in the case of pigs)... except when it comes to fish - there anything goes, herbi, omni or carni we chow them. Heck, crayfish and lobster are delicacies yet they can (rather accurately IMO) be described as the cockroaches of the sea..!Be ready for anything, and if his head is not at least two meters away from the body, do not 'assume' he is dead and out of the fight. - Ikor

Re: Feeding bush pig
Eating the pig is not the real problem, sitting around the bait for hours on end, that is the real problem.

Re: Feeding bush pig
Tried the mielies route - even used an auto spreader - nothing!!! The horse carcus is definatley on the right track, but what has worked for us around here is a couple of 44 Gal drums of ofval. When it is realy humming and the maggots are crawling every pig in the area will descend on it!
