How and with what do you conceal your "self defence" knife

I have been browsing the forums for a while and decided to join

I recently moved up to Gauteng and am now in the market for self defense knife's.

I think I have settle on a 16cm over length blade (single edge - blade length of 9.6cm, under 10cm as per legal laws) and 3 throwing knifes as back up.

What I want to know from you gents, is how do you conceal your knife's that you use for self defense?

Ankle strap? leg strap? etc.?

I can not use a belt sheath as I wear executive clothing and my belt is visible at all times. (Unless I wear a jacket, but that doesn't always happen)

I would suggest you seriously look at a SD pistol for SD. Taking a knife to a gun-fight is suicide.

Welcome to the site.

I'd strongly reconsider the throwing knife idea. It is highly unlikely to be able to get into that distance and you are also not likely to hit your target and if you do I doubt the severity of the wound.

There are some nice "boot" style knifes which you can get ankle sheaths/straps for but remember that it is slower to access from your ankle. I would consider this a secondary position.

For your primary and considering your formal office attire, I would get a folder and place it at an angle next to my belt buckle. You can also place the clip between your belt and pants but you have to consider how it might affect your access. This can be solved by having a knife where the clip is set a little lower leaving some part of the handle exposed above the belt line. You again cover this by pulling your shirt out a little and draping it down.

Another option you could consider is to get a nice flat profile fixed blade and to contact Geoff Carter (on the site) and ask him about making you a kydex tuck-able sheath.

Most important is get into some decent blade training asap.

I am not sure if there are any Amok schools there. Geoff will also be able to give you that information as he is one of the Instructors.

I carry two folders. One as a purely SD knife, and the other as an everyday, doing tasks and backup knife.

I also work in a formal office environment. I carry a knife on each hip, tucked between my body and the waistband, with the knife clip going over the waistband but still behind the belt. It is practically invisible.

You do not need to retire your pistol. Get a decent Inside the Waistband holster that also allows you to tuck your shirt in over the pistol, and you'll be sorted. No one needs to know that you are carrying.

Forgetting my manners, welcome to GS!
I've been consulting at a bank for the last year or so, and due to bank regulations, I have to hand my pistol in every morning for safe keeping.
Is this not an option for you? I would be very loathe to leave my pistol at home, maybe get a safe installed in your car and lock it away in your car safe before going into work? Not a great option but better than leaving your pistol at home. If you can carry a knife concealed, surely a pistol is not that hard to conceal?

mmm, wife also don't like it that I cary the pistol, so will need to convince her again :p
