First "proper" SD knife

Morning gentleman

I am now in the market for my first "proper" SD knife for EDC.

Going to move my current knife to backup for the new one.

What models can you guys recommend from spyderco? I love the Paramilitary2 and Manix2 (I'm a fan of the black blades) although I suspect that they are outside my price range.

I don't really want to spend much more than about R500. Any recommendations will be greatly appreciated.

This is what I am carrying at the moment. (excuse the poor quality, phone camera)...

Crkt M16's and M 21's go for bet R 350 and R 500 and will be a good choice in line with your budget.Also check out the Byrd line which is the economised version of Spyderco.

I'm partial to fixed baldes for SD. as I have said many times before, under adrenal stress, fine and complex motor skills suffer. I prefer to just grab and stab with a fixed blade than worry about grip shifts and manipulations of folders. any folder should at least have a 'wave' style opening where it hooks the edge of the pocket and opens on the draw. a couple small zip ties facing opposite directions through a thumb hole will also do the trick.

Cold Steel have a nice fixed blade 'tanto lite' for under R350

Dunn, the M16SF looks like a nice option, love the M21SF but it's a tad big for EDC.

you are welcome mate.don't bee too pre-occupied with knives being too large.in my opinion,very few folders on the market today,probably 10%-15% of available folders could be considered as too large for edc.that still leaves you with a wide choice.make sure that the folder's handle is large enough for you to positively grip and look for between a 3.5in and 4in blade for edc.below are pics of my current EDC folders with my edc Glock 22.top=Cold steel Rajah 3,rt hand side=spyderco endura clipit,bottom=SOG aegis camo.For me these are a comfortable size to edc and manouevre.however,my ideal EDC blade would be an Emerson full-size Commander [middle]or Super Commander[right] which are actually bigger than my any of my current options.

The Aegis is nice for carry but a bit limited by it's blade style in terms of use.It favours mainly a stabbing movement and not so much slashing as well as reverse grips.The Rajah excels in these departments due to its blade shape and handle design and the Spydie was my 1st folder that my dad gave to me as a birthday present many moons ago and is a fantastic all-round fighting and utility folder.

And thanks for the input.

I'm now torn between the M16 13SF and the M21SF

seeing as apparantly most Spyderco folders are out of my price range.

Anybody have any firsthand experience carrying these two blades? I work in a formal office environment (tucked in shirt, tie, etc), hence my reason for being concerned that the M21sf might be somewhat on the bulky side for EDC.

This is the blades I have on me today.
Millie for the chores and Matriarch for SD

These are my two favourite sd blades.

Have a look at the Boker Bat. I dont have a pic with me now but can take one for you tonight if you want to see it.
Should be able to pick one of them up for roun R650,00.
The Kevin Harvey signature model if you can still find one will set you back just over a grand.
