338 Lapua Reloading Data
I would really appreciate some data on reloading the 338 Lapua for the TRG42. I am going to use Somchem B127 powder and scenar 250 as well as 300 grain bullets. Thank you guys!

Re: 338 Lapua Reloading Data
It'll be too slow. Best is S385 or even S365 (according to Somchem).

Re: 338 Lapua Reloading Data
Hi Andries
See it's an old post but hope I can help a bit. I'm shooting the 338 Lapua TRGS 1/10 twist with the following loads currently. S365 84gn with 200g Nosler Etip, S385 81gn with 250gn Hornady interlocks. The loads are working well with the TRGS maybe it can help you as well as a starting point. Let us know if you have any loads that worked for you as well please.

Two cup fulls of your favourite powder topped with a 250 grainer should be pretty close ...

Re: 338 Lapua Reloading Data
My own data: 90 gn S385 with 250 gn Sierra MK or GK, 2900 fps from TRG41. 92 gn gives close to 3000 fps.
For the Hornady 225 gn SST, I use 88 gn S365, giving 3200 fps. S385 is to slow for 225 gn bullets IMO.
A friend says he uses 86 gn S365 with 250 Sierra MK, for 3000 fps. I have not tried that recipe yet.
If you want to use 300 gn bullets, you should get good results with S385, but I suppose B127 could work OK.
Check your rifling twist before going to 300 gn. 1 in 12 might not stabilize the 300 gn MK's etc properly. 1 in 10 is good for 300 gn.
Enjoy your baby!

Re: 338 Lapua Reloading Data
Hi Guys
Im using 84 gr S 385 behind 300gr Berger OTM Hybrid Tacs in my Savage BA110. Exceptional accuracy. Shooting 12" square plates out to 1000 m.
Who said you cant use it for hunting?
over the past week I shot 2 Impala (387yds and 413 yds) and today a 22" Red Hartebeest ranged at 275yds.
I lost my right leg in a Harley accident two years ago, so yes, I am bakkie shooting, not hunting!
I am going to do some load development with 285gr Barnes X as not to limit myself to head and neck shots.
Yes I do have more appropriate calibres, from 25-06 a few in betweeners, and a .458 Express. I also aquired a 4 bore inline muzzle loader last week! Planning to try this 1.053 " bad girl out on a Blouwildebeest in the next week or two.
i will appreciate inputs re the 285 gr Barnes loads.
Kind regards
cobus

Re: 338 Lapua Reloading Data
Hi please don't take this wrong but I would like to know if if you are getting signs of high pressure with these loads Im a little worried to go for these loads thus asking the question as you will be able to help me with these loads. Would like to get your opinion as you are already shooting these loads. I'm using the 338 Lapa TRGS 1/10 twist. Made a bad miscalculation and went over 90gr with 365 on a 200gr bullet and had clearly high pressure signs with my rifle thus I'm very carefull and staying away from any load around 90gr currently but won't mind to go up again just more safer this time thus hope to get some info from you on this. Also can any of you share your thoughts of using 365 behind the 250gr Hornady interlock bullet, have anyone shot 365 with a 250 gr and how did it perform, know the 365 might be to fast burning thus will drop in velocity but being in the bushveld thus just might be better going slower but don't want to loose acuracy on the rifle thanks
