So what happens after 30 June 09 if you haven't received your competency certificate and renewed licences?

Will you be in unlawful possession of your current "Old Act" firearms for which you have applied for renewal?

The local SAPS is suggesting you hand in your firearms which they "will keep in safe storage" until your licenses are renewed....................

Seems like either them or me is misunderstanding something.

If you already applied before the deadline then just keep the proof of application. No need to hand in the guns as you applied in time. My father was the first group to apply 4 years back and still didn't receive his renewal. Join the waiting as it may become great and not like Botma stated that they are well on track
