Help me define a Custom rifle?
IMO a custom rifle is one built from various components put together to achieve the required package. A rifle is not custom when the chamber is reamed to another calibre (for example, taking a 458 win mag and chambering it to 458 Lott, 450 Rigby etc.) by using a factory rifle to achieve this
I see so many ads where people have pics of standard factory rifles chambered to other calibres and wanting more for these rifles than what a "true" custom will cost.

Re: Help me define a Custom rifle?
To me a custom rifle is a normally a known calibre but one built to the specific ideals of it's owner. Items that would be customised are;
-The grade of wood (blanks can cost R 10 000+)
- The ergonomics of the stock which is made specifically to fit the owner. Grip, pull shape of forearm etc.
- Things like barrel length, sights, scopes etc. are all to individual taste.
- Could include gold inlaying, engraving and fancy checkering.
- Would include lapping the bolt lugs.
- Action will be purpose selected and probably glass and pillar bedded.
- Barrel diameter machined to suit requirements.
A few thoughts.
