I always trim irrespective of how the case looks, whether it is new or whether it has been fired, over the weekend I had a brand new PMP .44 Mag case that was .72 mm over length, this was out of the box. Most of the cases that came out of the same box were all slightly to long , 2 are too short by 0.2 and 0.13 respectively. Have had the same with Brand new .270 Win brass as with 9 mm P and .357 Mag.

Inconsistency is the route to much frustration.

    Hope this Helps

Yes, the length is not the main issue, but your doppies must all be the *same* length. Reason being, short and long doppies will crimp differently. And you want a consistent crimp, especially in a revolver.

    Thanks Burner and WRM

The cost of a Lee pilot+shell holder combo is so insignificant that is seems a "no brainer". All good for cases too long, but not so for cases that are too short.

As a friend of mine recently saluted us: "hou die lood in the lug!"

    Hey!!

I would say that, Hunting load For .44 Mag is a lot to handle. A 12ga is child's play compared to a full powered .44mag with hog hunting loads. Beginners will VERY commonly develop a flinch from starting too early with such a heavy recoiling handgun like a .44mag.

    Thanks a lot again

I am quite a big boy, I think I will be able to handle it, thank you DP! I admit it will take quite a while probably to be hunting-ready with it!

Bauerman, what max size animal are you planning to shoot, what terrain (distance) etc.? Pointless working up a buff flattener if you are only going to shoot impala at 20m.
