    Default 600 140gn needing loading

    Yo guys
Been shooting 130gn ers from my 270 since the start. But I got 600 140 I/Bond that I want to load, still decide on a use - I generally hunt 110gn GS Customs. I am thinkin mayby as a Warthog round for closed season.
Any S365 loads I can try - Somchem does not list so it would mean a very VERY cautious long tryout with out help. I have my speculations already

The Somchem booklet does offer loads for the 140gr BT Barnes TSX, happened to have bought the book today.

    S335 Start load 41.6gr (2566ft/s) and a max load of 46.0gr (2797ft/s).
    S365 Start load 43.0gr (2523ft/s) and a max load of 47.8gr (2830ft/s).

I only Hunt 140's , Usually Hornady 140 gr SST's or 140 gr interlocks, have had no issues with them and they just work in my rifle, more accurate and better grouping than either the 130's or the 150's , I will have a look tonight at home as to what loads i used and the results. THese were from Wayback though but might be of assistance.

Right here goes ( These were my tests and my loads that worked in my rifle , use at your own peril )

THis data was compiled using S365 lot 95 ( yes I know it is old well ok very old )

    PMP Cases CCI 250 Primers

    Hornady 140gr sst BTS
    OAL 84.4 mm

Start was 49gr with a max of 53gr

49gr 5 Shots 1.5 inch group to the left of center
50gr 5 Shots 1.5 inch group 1 inch below center
51gr 5 Shots 0.5 inch group 1 inch below center
52gr 1 Shot fired Bolt got sticky 2 inches left and 2 inches below center ( Pulled the other 4 Bullets )
53gr DID NOT EVEN FIRE , FEARED TO HOT

It must be noted that the Rifle was zeroed at 100m with 130gr SP and groups 5 shots into three quarter inch smack center.

Another strange occurance is that my 110gr bullets and 140gr bullets have the exact same point of impact and group sizes at 100m beyond that the 140 falls away a bit compared to the 110 but not when compared to the 130, it is about 1 inches up on the 130 at 200m anyone wish to explane this.

Unfortunately cant find the chrony data.

I will have to rework these loads anyway because of variances in the start and max loads with the newer batches of S365, seems that the start and max are both respectively 1 grain lower, going forward I will still load the 110 for Jackal and such goodies and the 140gr sst for general hunting.

For the anti SST Club , I have never had an issue with these, they have performed well and i have never had one explode on me and have always had through and through performance. The only recovery or partial recovery i had was on a Dear in the EC. shot was head on. bullet entered between the front legs went right through breaking the pelvis and exited , I did hovever find 56 gr of lead in the pelvic area where it hit the bone.

THe 110gr V-MAx is a different story all together.

I definately want to try the 180gr Barnes this year for close up work.

Sorry for the info over load.
    Cheers

140gr has a better BC than the 130's and would loose speed slower at the "far end"... put differently, firing those 130 and 140 loads from identical guns at the exact same moment, the 140 will overtake the 130 towards the end of the flight to the target. The 140 would start off a bit slower but keep its speed better.

Hey P , Thanks for the responce, I understand what you mean but I wouldnt have thought that the difference would have been so much over a 100m.

    Cheers
