Stinky Jerry Cans

I bought one of those 20L blue jerry cans from makro. But it has a faint "rubbery" odor. It might be its been in storage for a while or its the "special paint lining used to prevent water tainting, as used by NATO"

How do I clean / sterilize a metal jerry can without chemicals? I will be using it to store water.

Try auto dish washing powder. Its got a rinse aid so it won't taste like soap after its washed. Or Vanish will work as well but first prize is the powder. Soak it overnight.

Use about 4 Tablespoons, leave it overnight, rinse it out and see if it still smells.
I have a homebrewery - I use it to clean my bottles and fermenters. Works better than soap because it rinses out easily, leaves no residue - soap kills your head (the beers head I mean ;))
