It's the exact opposite. It's preparing for scenarios that we CANNOT plan for.

Over preparation and never needing it = no harm or loss to yourself.
Under preparation and needing it = possible massive losses or harm to yourself and loved ones.

Carry as many spare mags on you as the situation and dress code allows, and you feel comfortable with. Put extra mags in your laptop bag, or wherever else possible and still doing so legally.

Anything can happen out there. Not preparing for the worst possible situation can cost you dearly. Nothing worse than running dry with multiple BGs remaining and intent on doing you, your wife or children harm. I would hate to have to watch my wife raped by 5 BGs because I was too lazy or naïve to carry an extra mag or three.
Beware the killer ræbbit of Caerbannog! Look, that ræbbit's got a vicious streak a mile wide. It's a killer!!! He's got huge, sharp... eh, he can leap about... LOOK AT THE BONES!!!

Everyone on this forum should read your post, not just the noobs.

    Nice read Thorkind, thanks.

IMO you can never have too many mags.

mm, for my 27 Glock i have 4x27 standard mags, 1x23 mag and 1x22 mag as well. So 6 in total.

The problem is that i have a number of guns, so to buy like 6 mags for each will literally set me back not less the R5K and probably not more the R10K, so there is much to be said for using one carry gun, then maxing it totally.

ow on the other hand, i seem to always be looking for or buying mags, i have just in fact bought two Sig mags for my P230, and am waiting for a supplier to get Sig P290RS mags so i can buy another three, and i am about to order 3 S/S PPK/S mags for a new PPK/S i just bought.

And there are others i plan to buy very soon, at least every gun of mine has a minimum of two mags. And typically 3, but then there are exceptions where i would like 5 + mags... I see mags as disposable items and should be treated as such. Only the rare guns with mags that are unobtainable i treat like gold, and then obviously do not consider carrying that gun at all...

I made sure my EDC is interchangeable with my sport gun. EDC Glock 27, Sport Glock 22.

    Solves many problems.

There is definitely a big advantage running a system like that and it cuts down on extra mag costs.
