    Default Change of address procedure

I sold my house last year and need to move to a new house at the end of February.

What is the procedure to change the address for my rifle and handgun license purposes and when should this be done?

I also have to do this. I assume you can get the forms at SAPS.

then you wait for a year and a half and when you check up on them because they tell you an application address doesnt tie up with their records they'll tell you they lost it.... then six months later theyll phone you and say "sorry, we found it"....

Depends in which area you are. I went to Wierdabrug police station on wednesday to change my address. The friendly lady said keep the forms and tell me...I watched as she updated it on the system.

The FCA says you need to do this within 30 days of moving, they never even asked me when I moved and it is not filled in on the form (I was a bit late). Did not need photos of my safe (also didn't provide photos 18 months ago when I moved the first time).

I'm moving to Midstream Estate so wonder which are I will fall under.

At least I only have to do it once I am in the property.

Do you have to motivate why you move as well ?

Also, if the relocation has an effect on the reason for obtaining the firearms in the first place, do they withdraw the licenses ?

    Ruhan,

You will probably fall under Lyttleton or possibly Midrand. My first change of address I gave in at Lyttleton, just dropped off the forms. Eventually when I called the call centre I remembered about it and had them check my address and it was properly updated.

    F a n i e,

They don't ask questions or anything when you give in your change of address and there is no motivation required on the form (such as do you still need you SD FA now that you moved). Not even a safe inspection at the new place.

It is purely an administrative procedure (well that has been my experience).
