I'm studying to become a lawyer and would like to know if I can sign up to become a reservist. Now my question is, will I be able to do so? Would doing paper work at the station in any way help me when I do qualify? I want to go into a bit of criminal law when I'm done so will the exposure I get in the Police station be beneficial to me in any way?

I really don't mind sitting and doing paper work or what ever else is required. I'm sure by me offering my time I will be helping the station and the reservist guys?

Please tell me if I'm being ridiculous and whether I should drop this idea completely or persue it. If you wish to tell me anything that's private please PM me as I will really appreciate any and all forms of information/suggestions.

    Thanks
Respect! I think you would do very well if you became a reservist & then a lawyer as the back ground you will gain will be of tremendous worth to you. Not only with the lingo but also the SAPS "culture". This would help you when you do your lawyering in a big way! Hopefully some real justice to follow then to! Plus the fact that if you are willing to do paper work then you will be a hero!

    Thanks bud

I guess it's two fold after all. I won't lie when I say I complain about the level of crime in this country, so instead of just bitching my whole life away, I'll try and do what I can and help my local station. In turn, as you say, it will provide me with some useful experience when dealing with criminal cases. I do get quite a bit of holidays and instead of wasting it like most of the youth today, I rather do something productive which helps the community. At least it will help take my mind of my application while CFR processes the damn thing

Do you get a schedule to work or do you just go when you can?

It depends on how your station runs it. At Wierdabrug you can mostly pitch up and work a shift when you can, provided there are vehicles and firearms available. At Lyttelton as I have it you have to book in advance to work a specific shift.

Some stations will let you work however and with whomever you want to, and others will post you on a vehicle and crew of their choice as they deem neccesary.

I have a question regarding the outlined required for joing as a reservist.

IS it possible to join while one is a student? Although I didnt spot anything in the online PDF, the reservist at the Sinoville station did tell me that I need to be employed full time.
