Hi Glenn, this is what I used. Hope it helps.
Motivation for firearm for Dedicated Sports Usage
I am a Dedicated Sports Shooter (proof attached) and I shoot competitively at XX
I wish to participate in the category of XX as per XX regulations.
I therefore require a new firearm for this division.
According to XX, the requirements for the firearm I am applying for are laid out below.

Eg. Stock Service Pistol Division (SSP)
Handguns permitted for use in this division must:
    A. Be semi-automatic.
    B. Be double action, double action only, or safe action (when the trigger is pulled, the hammer/striker is cocked and then released).
    C. Be 9mm (9x19) or larger caliber

where can i find the list of categories and requirements for handgun shooting in SA?

I currently have a dedicated sports shooting status based on my rifle shooting so my application will state that I want to make the move from rifle shooting to handgun. I will have to demonstrate the rifle shooting I've done and then what I intend to do with the handgun.
