Magtech 9mm 115gr JHP
Hi
Does anyone have experience with these rounds? I've recently purchased myself some of these for EDC due to the pricing R220/50.
Of course there are better available but at much steeper prices.
Is there any type of "test" one can perform like shooting a phone book ect?
Thanks

Re: Magtech 9mm 115gr JHP
I used those as Range ammo, never had failure yet! I'd shot about 500 with those through HK Usp Compact. This was before I heard of reloads at WAY cheaper prices! Now i carry them for EDC too

Reliability is always #1, so shoot enough of your Magtechs to make sure your gun runs reliably with them (at the very least 50-100rd). Provided it does, I am willing to bet that they will deform more than a FMJ, so you are ahead of the game with that at least. Fackler and DocGKR have stated that water may be used as an acceptable substitute for ballistic gel where bullet expansion is concerned. Penetration, however, does not translate well with water.

I fed 50 through so far and my Glock ate them perfectly.
I thought about perhaps using a phonebook as a gauge to test it against different jhps.

You could make ballistic gel, its not that difficult and there are loads of videos on youtube to show you how to do it.

What a coincidence!just bought a few of them the other day and fooled around with a telephonebook etc...I taped the book to a tree and shot a magtech jhp 115 and a winchester 115 fmj...both went all the way through...when adding a heap of newspapers to the back, the fmj went through the book and about 6cm into the paper...the jhp about 3 cm...it didn't expand much though...front is still smaller than your average shirt button...curious about the result in water or gel...

The phonebook must be saturated with water in order to simmulate human tissue.
Let them soak in water for about an hour before using.
Tape about three expanded Jhb phonebooks together and then shoot them.

Re: Magtech 9mm 115gr JHP
I recently fired a few of the 115gr +P versions through my pistol. These loads are hot. They felt very snappy, muzzleblast was big and loud and muzzle flash was pretty impressive. They chrono'd at over 1300fps from my Tanfoglio. How these bullets will hold up at these velocities remains to be seen and the only other drawback I can think of is that the muzzle flash will be a disadvantage in low light shooting conditions.
Other than that the rounds fed and functioned perfectly in my tanfoglio and the Vector CP1 that was also present (not mine before anyone thinks this is the time for a snappy comment).
