.50 BMG Hunting photos
Was fortunate enough about a month ago, to hunt with a friend's .50 cal in the Free State. The gun is a Truvelo barrel and action, Macmillan Stock, with a 5-22x50 Nightforce Scope. It was assembled by German (gunsmith in the Cape).Launches a 650gr FMJ so at 2900ft / s. The black wildebeest was shot at 425m facing me right in the centre of the chest exciting just before the back leg .
The springbok was shot at 388m side shot. In both animals there was almost no meat damage and the animals collapsed within 5 steps. The gun weighs about 23kg and has a 39" barrel with a very large muzzle break.
Recoil is more a push than a hard kick. Definitely not intended for every day's hunting, but was certainly a great experience.

Re: .50 BMG Hunting photos
Nice. The first time I've seen something hunted with a 50BMG. When I read the thread title I thought it was going to an Elephant :)

Now that does look like fun. Sure there are a few jealous guys on the forum.

Re: .50 BMG Hunting photos
I didn't know we could license .50BMG's now. I've heard of people that tried and failed. Fantastic news!

Re: .50 BMG Hunting photos
A friend of mine imported one from Accurcy Int in the UK in a 50cal and the other one had this one build and lisenced. Both were lisenced under collecters status. You will be surprised what is possible today. Next will be a Barret.

Re: .50 BMG Hunting photos
What we really need to conclude here on the forum is if a projectile of 650gr traveling at 2900ft is capable of downing a eland? will it out perform the 375 and the 30-06?
