Just stumbled across this sad news about the passing of Sisingi Kamongo.

    https://www.facebook.com/photo.php?f...&stream_ref=10

This post was made on an SAPS page. I felt it needed to be seen here as this speaks of a generation of men that history is in the process of forgetting. Many, especially young people, do not know about this part of our country's and especially Police history. And as these courageous men literally die off, so do their stories and legends.

The following was posted by Mr David Benedict Kiley:

On behalf of the members of the Koevoetbond in South Africa and fellow SA Police veterans, it is with sadness that I report the passing of a remarkably courageous policeman, during the night of Friday, 21st February, 2014, in the hospital at Rundu (Namibia), as eventual result of medical complications arising from life changing wounds suffered in the line of his operational duties.

Former Special Constable Sisingi Emiltus (Shorty) Kamongo. Tracker with SAP Koevoet group Zulu 4 Sierra (Rundu 1984-1990) and author of the acclaimed autobiography: "Shadows in the Sand - a Koevoet tracker`s story."

And so breaks this sad day.
    Last night the man
with the heart of a lion,
    the memory of an elephant,
    the eyesight of a eagle,
    the tenacity of a ratel,
the ability to survive of a jackal,
    died at the Rundu Hospital.

Through his writing, he made sure he will never be forgotten.
He changed the lives of many, but his own stayed (unfortunately) the same. Forever he will be "Nge" the scorpion
Forever he will be "Kafiya Maumbo" - The sweeper of the kraals.

    Rest in Peace
I am glad to have read his book and listened to this podcast. Wish I could have met him.
Last I heard he was staying with Francois du Toit I wonder how he came to be in Rundu.

    RIP.
    Respect.

    Thanks for posting mostlyharmless.

    RIP Sisingi.

I hope his family was with him at the end.
