How do you know if a mauser is an obendorf mauser, K98 or a israeli mauser?

Hi guys, don't know much about rifles. But a guy I know wants to sell his .308 I just want a few tips on how to ID the rifle and destinguish it?

unless I am mistaken but all mausers after 1898 are K98's. The obendorf will be stamped with either a swastika or stamped as "Deutse Waffen" or something to that effect. Not sure of israeli?

The israeli will have a israeli crest stamped above the receiver. If the rifle is drilled for scope mounts the crest should still be visible.

If memory serves I couldn't see the Israeli crest or the swastika. A friend has an Israeli .308 and this one's reciever looks different. Could someone please post pics of the 2 different ones?The rifle is not with me.Thanx guys

An Israeli will have 7.62 stamped on the receiver also from when the conversion was done.

Look for a small star of david, on the one I have seen its about 6mm point to point, and very faint(depending on the condition) also will be stamped 7.62 (as previously stated)
