Re: Shootin' the breeze with camouflage762: Episode 43
Thank you Camo - another very informative addition to our history.
The outcome of the mission is as posted in this thread: http://www.gunsite.co.za/forums/show...es-repatriated where there are some of the photographs to which the Major General refers.
I take my hat off to him and all the other persons who were involved in this (surprisingly) long process of repatriating these soldiers. It is a shame that the SANDF basically disowned them and showed no interest in assisting. Now of course, after the privately funded project, some politicians are climbing on the bandwagon to catch some shine, but I guess it's a case of rather late than never.
To be fair it sounds like some official assistance was forthcoming in the later stages of the project, and kudos to President Zuma for adding weight to the diplomatic side.

Thanks JS4, your link dovetails nicely with the podcast!
The pics in the link you posted are refered to in the talk.
Well done to Maj. Gen Opperman & his team.
Agreed President Zuma diplomatic intercession does seem to have got the ball rolling.Recent studies show that 1 out of every 3 liberals are just as dumb as the other 2

I actually have A small piece of that plane. believe A bosbok?
My father worked in Angola and use to visit him,and always tryed to go and see the places our soldier fought and layed down their lives
We can only be thankful for them and the ultimate sacrifice they made, and I hope that this history never gets lostLast edited by camouflage762; 04-12-2012 at 06:47. Reason: Bosbok

I think they get removed from iTunes after a while, but you can download them directly from the site - go to the Downloads section at the top, or look here: http://www.gunsite.co.za/forums/down...hp?do=cat&id=1
