Re: BUSH PIG STOPPER.
i shot a pig with a 22 jacketed hollow point 15-20m ish. not because I want to but I had to. it was at the wrong place right time had caused major damage to the crops and we came across it by chance after 2 months of looking all we had was a .22 so agreed not favorable but does work just dont do it if you dont have to.. Sure every one will agree.

Re: BUSH PIG STOPPER.
My 2c - Any of the Marlin Levers from 30-30 upwards are good for Bushpig. 444, 45-70 and even the new 308 and 338 Express will do the job. I don't believe a 22 is good enough to do the job and ethically this is not on. Maybe 223, 22 Hornet and such, but *still* your shot would have to be perfect.
Since Bushpig hunting is a night time activity, perfect shot placement is pretty tricky. I dropped a pig on my last hunt with a 338 Win Mag - lucky shot through the heart. It didn't take another step. That's probably a bit too hot - it didn't mushroom much, straight through.

Re: BUSH PIG STOPPER.
I vote for Marlin 45-70. I shoot bushpigs with Ruger No. 1 in 45-70 and the calibre works a charm. The Marlin has added bonus of 4 or 5 shots in the tube mag. Couple that with a 350 gr bullet at +/- 1900fps (from the Marlin), do your part wrt shot placement and you're in the bacon.

Re: BUSH PIG STOPPER.
No matter what who says. Bigger is better for nasty piggies at night and close range. I use 30-06 with 220 gr RN Hornaday interlocks. They break up real nice to put a pig down. Still waiting for my licence for .44 Mag Marlin. .22? Have done it also because of various circumstance. It is not ethical and not reliable at all. IT IS NOT RELIABLE! DON'T DO IT.

Re: BUSH PIG STOPPER.
Simple answer, a double length .44mag, twice the powder, 300gn semi wad cutter at 1900fps, keep away from Remington factory loads, the 200gn jacketed flat point, disintegrates, far too fast. You can use a normal .44mag cartridge, good for messing around and cheaper. the combination Marlin rifle and 444 cartridge is good for Kudu at 100mts, quick and handy enough for bush pig but watch for the recoil. Let me know if you want more info. Mark Drinn brought mine in for me about 20 years ago, complete with dies and ammo.

Re: BUSH PIG STOPPER.
I would love to have a Rossi M92 in 454 Casull for pigs in the sugar can at night.
With 10 round in the chamber I don't think that you will run into to many problems.
