    will be taking
    firesteel
    decent full tang knife
    Some paracord
army tipe water bottle and firebucket
considering a sleeping bag as i am a little hessitant to let a fire burn all night this time of year.
But with the above mentioned i should be fine. for gathering and purifying water, setting some traps for food making fire building a small shelter.

    Any suggestions anyone?

ya- replace your shoelaces with paracord and wear some as a bracelet, then it shouldn't count as an item :P

    Sounds lekker - I'm keen.

    1. Knife
    2. Firestarter
    3. Waterbottle
    4. Army poncho/groundsheet combo.
    5. Basic Medical kit

Maybe decide whether the five items are five on top of what you would have with you on any given day in any case (such as a knife, clothes, etc) or not.

Two days is very short, but it will give you a very good indication of what goes for what.

Sounds like fun, but I have no bushcraft experience? Can I still join?

    On my list would be:

    Fire bucket (old SANDF "bire-fucket").
LARGE full tang knife. (Even a panga would do great.)
Surgical tubing (kettie, straw, tourniquet etc etc.)
    An empty "papsak" for water.

I wear lace up boots so there is no problem there. Dress warm and take off layers as it gets warmer.
Done this many times, on bike trips we usually take a sleeping bag, a fire bucket ("birefucket") a big blade, a kettie and I smoke anyways so no worry about a firesteel.
    Have fun!

suggestion- coordinate between yourselves so that each guy brings different items of the same category eg. fire starter (firesteel, fresnel lens/magnifier, steel wool and battery, matches/lighter, chemical combo's etc etc) or shelter (tarp, poncho, space blanket, trash bags) that way you can experiment with the different options and learn from each other.

as an advanced option, try make fire and shelter without anything you brought, ie friction firestarting and debris shelter.

when I took groups of students from my MA class on survival trips, we would go in friday afternoon. with limited time we would use the modcons like firesteel and tarps. on the saturday we had more time to spend using only natural materials

This does sound like lots of fun, won't be able to go with though. But I would only take 1 item: my Go Bag haha.
