What would increase accuracy more?
After testing S221 in my SBHH yesterday, I noticed that my accuracy dramatically increased. Here are the differences between my previous hunting load and my new load I have settled on.
Previous:
.429 255g taylor made swc
21gr S265
1294fps
CCI 350 LPM primers
Assorted cases
Accuract = 6 shots in 4" at 25meters
New load:
.430 260g taylor made swc (same as above just heavier lead alloy)
12g S221
1260fps
PMP LPM primers
PMP cases
Accuracy = 3 shots in 1" at 20meters
What is the most likely part that increased my accuracty?
I'm thinking either powder change, .430 vs .429, smae cases???
What do you think had the biggest impact?

Re: What would increase accuracy more?
Well it is not as easy as it seems, this is due to the fact that to many variables have changes between the 2 cartridges,
Bullet Weight
Propellant
Primer
Cases
If I had to have a wild Guess , in order , I would say upping to .430 and then the powder change. IMHO.
Cheers

Re: What would increase accuracy more?
I know what you mean, it would have been nice to check 1 at a time, however, whatever happened seems to work. I loaded up 100 rounds today (12g S221, my new load) and will try confirm the increased accuracy tomorrow. Maybe I just had a "good" day yesterday.
Now for a dumb question, I have seen many, many times, on many forums people posting "IMHO", what the hell does that mean??? I'm guessing "In My Honest Oppinion"??? Is that it??

Re: What would increase accuracy more?
I have read somewhere that tension that the cases has on the crimp also affects accuracy, thus if it is older cases the tension may be different to newer cases. i would say that the .430 fact may also influence accuracy.

Re: What would increase accuracy more?
i found .430 lead and .429 premium bullets give me best accuracy.
i think that one aspect alone is a large factor.
ofcourse cominations of everything else plays a part as well.
an old SW 29 that my friend had liked .430 over .429 .
its safe to go one thou over for lead.Last edited by KK20; 30-06-2012 at 14:14.
