The rifle stands in the safe...but it still needs to be cleaned! You are right of course Messor. Thanks for the heads up, will definitely load some more rounds.

NECRO POST, NECRO POST, NECRO POST - BUT STILL VALID.

Hi to all. Moved home a few years ago, no shooting for 3 years.

Now loads of shooting done and time to finally clean the barrels and can't find my cleaning fluids.

Please recommend what solvents etc you guys feel are best. Not ammonia based stuff.

Need a powder solvent and a copper remover.

Have got my rods, bore guides and brushes.

    Have got Ballistol.

Both rifles have stainless steel barrels. Savage .260Rem and a Ruger .375Ruger

Advice on products appreciated. We live in the Karoo, no chance of just going to a big gunshop.

Ive been using Forest Bore cleaning foam for close to 20 years. Spray into barrel. Leave 10 to 15minutees and run patches trough till all out.

Friend of mine started using a 2 bottle system sold by Bullet Central. And he says its super easy and quick. And the barrel looks as if it has never fired a shot.

Im actually planning to go buy and try tomorrow.

Remember diesel being used on the R5's. No copper buildup in those barrels. Perhaps it smoked off.

My contact at Safari says to try Bore Tech - the two in one system. Bore Tech Eliminator.

Does powder and copper clean in one.

Then use a oil to prevent corrosion - wonder if a stainless barrel needs corrosion protection??

Boretech Elimanator works well, I prefer their separate carbon and copper cleaners though. I clean the carbon deposit after shooting, copper only if groups start opening up.

Since you have Ballistol, use Ballistol....
