.17 HMR Wow!
The .17 HMR looks like a great little calibre. 2350fp/s from a 20g bullet, and flat trajectory over 100m.
The little Ruger 77/17 looks quite nice, but imagine this in a 10/22 lv29 and there have been some conversions I see. This would definitely be on the list.
Are there any rifles available here in this calibre, what makes and how much is the ammo?
There's a link to an amature, but quite impressive comparison of the calibres ability against the .22

Re: .17 HMR Wow!
This is possibly a very stupid question... but I'd rather ask it than stay ignorant... ;)
Would one still need to licence a .17 HMR or does the rule only apply to air rifles with a cal of under .22?

Re: .17 HMR Wow!
Shaan you would need to license it like any other firearm that rule only applies to air rifles. HGS you wont be able to reload this one it is a rimfire.

Re: .17 HMR Wow!
Its a rimfire. You cannot reload rimfires. Ammo is fairly expensive even in the US

Re: .17 HMR Wow!
And it stands for ....
.17 Hornady Magnum Rimfire
Even if ammo is not freely available and expensive, you just have to love this little number!
Just a question, is ammo available in SA?
I think it will make a excellent little 'toy'... grn1
