    Default Hunting Bushpig without feeding

Hi Guys, I have read quite a bit on hunting the Bushpig through various feeding methods.

The problem is that when I get the opportunity it is normally short notice and the farmers do not necessarily want to go through the effort of creating feeding spots for these pests.

Which other approaches have you found to be successful that does not include feeding?

Normally there will be crops were they are feeding. Walk slowly and not making too much noise through the crops on contuur ridges or paths/roads. Stop and listen regularly and listen for them bastards feeding. They can chomp and grunt and break maize plants and feed noisily. When you have located them by ear, slowly move closer, and I mean slowly, but beware of the wind direction. They have wonderful noses. Listen as you approach them. When they feed, move, when they go quiet you stand dead still. Move with them if they are too far inside the land, they normally feed and move in and out of the crops as they go by. Eventually you will think you are on top of them, but you are not, beleive me. Go closer till you are scared of it. Switch on your torch and shoot. If it is bright moonlit, without torch. Be ready for a nice adrenalin rush. Hell, its lekker.

I sommer get goosebumps by just explaining the process to you.

So without baiting, crops or dogs chances are very remote?

Zero experience with this, but from extensive reading about the manne that do, it looks like you have more chance of falling pregnant.

Unless you walk into them , which is highly unlikely during the day, your only chance will be with dogs or by baiting.

If you don't bait them and there is no crops the chances are between 0 and 0.1% of finding them. Dogs without crops or at least a riverine bush or bushy kloof are also a bit diffucult. I mean, where do you take the dogs? You must have a possible feeding ground to search through with the dogs.

I shot a total of 8 pigs, driving with a spot at night through young maize lands with a shotgun nogal!
Finding the pigs is not easy, and when you see them they run like hell!!!
The first 2 pigs i ever shot was from the back of a bakkie at night with a s/s shottie and slugs, driving through a ploughed land at speed! I was 16 at the time and shot the first pig with the left barrel, and the second with the right!!!
The faces on the ou ballies driving and spotting for me was priceless, i was a legend from that day on!!
