Default What game can I knock over with Josyd SWC's from my .44

    Hi Guys

I have decided to try 22 grains of S265 with 240gr Josyd SWC's , what do you guys think of that?

My main question : What animals can I knock over with the 240 gr Josyd SWC( I have like hundreds of them)

I want to shoot Pigs, european, warts, bush , feral any pigs , bushbuck!

And if I stumble across a kudu ? Can I draw a bead on him with this bullet?

I will be walk and stalk hunting so it will be close range shooting mainly!

    Thanks Ouens

You can easily take a kudu with the .44
    Just place the bullet correctly

Am not sure it's legal to shoot Europeans, at least not until tourist season opens....

You're not saying what you're shooting with... rifle?

Up to 100m, the 44 Magnum outperforms the 30-30, according to some (there's a bit of a religious war about it every now and then over on leverguns).

22 grains S265 will give you about 1620 fps (I found 23 grains a bit hot in my setup). I wouldn't have a problem klupping a kudu with that at < 100m.

The Josyd 44 magnum bullets I found were pretty horrible -- it's a mould that used to belong to Ludi, for a gas checked bullet, but supplied without gas checks, and the mould was misaligned -- but it could be that either you bought these bullets long ago, when the mould was still OK, or that Josyd retired that mould and got a new one. If the bullets look good and group well, go for it.

    @WRM

I have 300 plus Josyds , they were bought about ten years ago, I also have a about 200 265 gr Hornady interlocks?

Can I use the same powder and grains with the 265 gr Hornadys?

I got these bullets along with my Rollie when I bought it!

What would be a good recipe to load, powder, primer and amount, if I would load the hornadys 265grainers?

22 grains is high end, I'd go down to 20 and work up again every time the bullet changes. The Hornadys being a bit heavier and also being not-cast might work better with a bit less powder.

With the rollie your muzzle velocity will be lower, I got 1330 fps with 22 grains S265.

Many thanks WRM, what would your avg max hunting range be (provided you don't shoot like a poephol)?

    Thanks again for the info
