Which dealer's in Durban allow test firing before purchasing?
Hi, I have never owned a firearm before so this will be my first, I am going to do my competency soon but before I do that I want to have my mind made up on what I am buying. I am interested in buying a Gen 4 Glock for SD (covinced from all the post I have read here so far) but I first need to test a few models (G17,G19,G22,G23) before I make my decision, can anyone tell me which dealers in the Durban area will allow me to do this?

hi mo_mo
My advice would be to do your competency ASAP, since you will have to wait 3-4 months for it to be approved. In that time you can decide on what you want to buy. Also when you go test fire you will have already gone through competency training.
Ihawu firearms centre in New Germany has an attached range, and they usually have demo guns, but not always (you can't test fire stock that they want to sell as new) You can do your competency there too.

IMHO this isnt enough to make an informed decision. Handle a few of them (dont limit yourself to Glocks) and settle for the one that fits YOU best. Having said that, if you are willing to drive up to PMB, you can have a go with my 19 and formulate your own decision (without the sales pitch).

Re: Which dealer's in Durban allow test firing before purchasing?
Thanks for the kind offer golof, but pmb is a little far out from where I am, I am not in durban, im on the north coast, about 20-25mins away from ballito and durban is abt 45mins to an hours drive, but thanks anyway.
What other makes should I try? I was thinking glock because of the availability of spares etc. I don't want to get stuck with a gun were spares become a problem to get, but you guys know more than me obviously so thats why I am here, I need all the advice I can get.
I have shot a cz75 some many years ago but that was just for fun,not because I was interested in buying a gun... thinking about it now it was nice but I didn't have anything to compare it would so that doesn't count for much now does it!!!

I also really enjoye shooting the CZ. I decided on the glock because there are no external controls to worry about other than the trigger- no safety, no hammer, no DA/SA. Its a bit like a revolver in that way- in a SD situation its point and click, less to think about
