    Default A new kukri

I ordered this a while back, but finally picked it up today. Ontario kukri.

Here it is next to my Cold Steel Gurkha kukri.

Essentially the same size. 1095 carbon steel, razor sharp, and .25" thick. The Cold Steel is thicker, and made of the old Carbon V which was specially heat treated 1095, I've been told.

But the Cold Steel Gurkha kukris are several hundred dollars and the Ontario kukri set me back $49. Nice.

    Nice!
Ontario I believe makes very nice products considering what you pay for them.

    Congrats.

Thanks! I have several Ontario knives and they have always been a great value.

    Nice pair M14sRock!

How is the Ontario coating, considering that it is a heavy-duty apliance?

It seems better than some of the teflon type coatings, Pivo. Pretty similar to the other Ontario coatings. I'm sure it will scratch off with use, but I'll use FrogLube on the blade when that happens.

Awesome... Is there any school which teaches the art of fighting with a kukri? Is there a dedicated fighting style for the kukri?

There is. Take blade, hack off part of offending opponent. Repeat as necessary:)

LR the kukri style as i was exposed to it was similar to a short / small sword not a knife. the kukri is very versatile and maybe used in many ways depending on application.
basically for defense the use a zig zag strikes :
out the scabbard to the head
    Chop to the head
    Chop to the arm
    Chop to the torso
    Chop to the leg
