Default Sako x Mauser hunting rifle ???

    Hi there

I got a rifle from my grandpa recently, but on closer inspection I was very surprised at what I rerad on the rifle!

It is a 30-06 and I believe he bought it 40 years ago, whether new or secondhand , I don't know, I do know that this rifle has not shot more than 100 rounds.

    Now

On the barrel it says: SAKO CAL 30-06, Made in Finland and on the receiver it says WAffenfabrik Mauser with a few numbers on the bolt itself, it is a Mauser Bolt or similar action and the bolt and trigger is steel( not blued) looks like stainless!

The stock is a beutiful piece, not sure what wood!

    My questions are:

What rifle is this? A mauser x sako? Was it built by a gunsmith in SA,how many are there and what is it worth? ( I would never sell it though)?

I would just like to know more about this rifle since I am the new owner!

    Please advise

Photos please. The identification is so much easier.

Had a quick look on Sako's website. They have info on the older models. Check and see if you can trace it by the numbers supplied. You can even send photos to them and they should be able to help. I traced my Krico .22 all the way back to the early sixties.

Sounds like you have SAKO on a Mauser action. Mauser supplied actions to many manufacturers.

    Google "WAffenfabrik Mauser"

There was a thread a couple of weeks ago asking the same thing. One of the guys said in the '60's Sako used Mauser actions to build rifles.
